ABOUT US
We Teach, Research, & Demonstrate how human civilization can thrive in mutual relationship with the living Earth.
At the core of IIRD’s work is the Integrated Regenerative Design Framework.
It is a transdisciplinary approach to design that unites ecology, technology, and human culture into a coherent pattern.
It provides designers, planners, architects, engineers, and decision-makers with tools for creating systems that function as an integral part of the planet’s living metabolism, working with nature instead of against it.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational and research institute.
A critical part of the IRD Framework is the Biocompatible Design Standard.
A rigorous set of principles and guidelines defining how to create technologies that are deeply compatible with all life.
Together, the IRD Framework and the BCD Standard form the foundation of a new design language, one that replaces extraction and fragmentation with regeneration and coherence.
OUR MISSON
Is to equip professionals, communities, and organizations with the frameworks and skills needed to design systems that restore ecological integrity while supporting economic and cultural vitality.
IIRD’s programs are designed for professionals who want to move beyond legacy concepts of sustainability toward regenerative practice.
Our curriculum spans ten specialized tracks, from
agroecology and community systems to finance and biocompatible technology.
IIRD provides short online courses, in-depth training with professional credential tracks, and advanced continuing education programs. The goal is to deepen students’ existing areas of expertise by teaching them how to reframe their existing skills into a whole-systems and regenerative design framework.
Beyond the classroom, IIRD works with partner organizations to develop demonstration projects that bring regenerative principles to life.
These living laboratories show how wildlands, working lands, and human settlements can coexist in harmony, showing that ecological regeneration and human prosperity can be designed as one integrated whole.
The Institute also seeks to foster a global community of practice, connecting practitioners, researchers, and partner organizations who are pioneering regenerative solutions across every scale, from individual sites to entire bioregions. Through this growing network, IIRD supports shared learning, research collaboration, and the co-creation of regenerative culture.
